Doha: The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) Philosophy Program recently organized a symposium focused on the significance of philosophy in relation to the mind and ethics in contemporary society. This event was part of the institute's World Philosophy Day celebrations and saw participation from academics, researchers, and students. According to Qatar News Agency, the symposium was moderated by Assistant Professor of Philosophy Dr. Rachid Boutayeb. The discussions at the symposium revolved around the understanding of philosophy within the Arab context, the importance of moral virtues in critical thinking, and the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI). Professor and Head of the Philosophy Program Dr. Raja Bahlul emphasized during the symposium's opening that the themes of mind and ethics are crucial, especially as second-year students in the program are focusing their theses on these subjects. Assistant Professor of Philosophy at DI, Dr. Karim Sadek, contributed to the event by presenting a paper that delved into the understanding of philosophy in the Arab context. The symposium also included two discussion sessions where students had the opportunity to present their research papers on various philosophical topics.
