Tokyo: The US dollar posted modest gains against major currencies in Asian trading on Tuesday. According to Qatar News Agency, the euro held steady at $1.1656, down 0.04%, and remained in the middle of the narrow range it has maintained over the past two weeks. The dollar's performance against the yen showed a slight decrease of 0.1%, settling at 147.77. This movement indicated a lack of momentum to break out of its month-long range, particularly after a Japanese government bond auction experienced weaker demand compared to July. The Australian dollar traded at $0.6489, trimming earlier gains. This adjustment followed the release of Westpac data, which showed that consumer sentiment had risen to a three-and-a-half-year high in August. Similarly, the New Zealand dollar also pared gains, last trading at $0.59245. Sterling eased to $1.3501, reaching its lowest level in a week after earlier gains had faded.
