Moscow, Assigned by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the SCW, Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Balushi, member of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), participated in the 4th Euro-Asian Women's Forum in Saint Petersburg. The forum, chaired by Valentina Matvienko, President of the Russian Federation Council, runs from September 18 to 20, 2024. Dr. Al Balushi highlighted the progress of Bahraini women under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the SCW's role in implementing the 2005 National Strategy for the Advancement of Bahraini Women. She spoke about initiatives like the Gender Balance Model, through which Equal Opportunities Committees have been set up in public and private sectors, and the Princess Sabeeka Global Award for Women's Empowerment, inviting participation in the 2024 edition. She also touched on Bahrain's Political Empowerment Programme, which has led to increased female representation in legislati ve bodies, including the election of Bahrain's first female Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2018. Dr. Al Balushi noted that Bahraini women were the first in the Arab world to have participated in municipal elections in 1926.
