An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck Morona Santiago province in southeastern Ecuador Monday. The US Geological Survey said that the epicenter of the quake was 60 km east of Macas, the provincial capital, at a depth of 26.1 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the quake so far. Ecuador is constantly exposed to earthquakes because it borders the Nazca plate.
