Doha: An earthquake measuring 5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the coasts of Taiwan's Taitung County today: China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said in a statement that the quake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers, adding that the epicenter was monitored at 23.07 degrees north latitude and 121.55 degrees east longitude.
According to Qatar News Agency, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. Taiwan is located near the intersection of tectonic plates at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, which makes it prone to recurrent earthquakes.
