Egypt Foreign Minister and UN Secretary-General Discuss Key Developments in Gaza and Sudan

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty engaged in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to deliberate on the latest developments concerning the Gaza Strip and Sudan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement indicating that the conversation focused on the ongoing efforts related to the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza. This includes the potential deployment of an international stabilization force, supporting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, facilitating the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and pursuing the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Abdelatty underscored the urgent need to initiate an early recovery and reconstruction process in Gaza, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that addresses the local population's needs.

The discussion also covered the situation in Sudan, where Abdelatty highlighted the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe corridors to facilitate humanitarian aid as steps towards a comprehensive ceasefire. He advocated for launching a comprehensive political process in Sudan while reaffirming Egypt's commitment to respecting Sudan's sovereignty, maintaining its unity and territorial integrity, and supporting its national institutions.
