Doha: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi the developments in the Gaza Strip and the region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Thursday that Minister Abdelatty addressed Egypt's efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, initiate its second phase, and to contain the current escalation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Minister urged restraint during this critical phase the region is experiencing and emphasized the need to avoid any actions that could increase tensions. He also highlighted developments in the Red Sea, stressing the necessity of protecting freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and restoring regional calm to prevent the region from slipping into a cycle of violence and escalation.
In another phone call with British Foreign Minister David Lammy, Abdelatty discussed developments in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza. The Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed his British counterpart on Egypt's efforts to return to the ceasefire agreement and begin its second phase, while addressing the current Israeli escalation. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts to contain the escalation in the region and prevent the conflict from spreading, considering the grave repercussions on the people of the region.
Regarding developments in Sudan, the two ministers exchanged views on efforts to restore stability and peace in the country. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's security, stability, national institutions, unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. Additionally, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in political, investment, and economic fields.
