Egyptian Foreign Minister Engages with Global Counterparts on Middle East De-escalation

Doha: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaaty discussed regional de-escalation during phone calls Tuesday with his Iranian and Russian counterparts respectively, Abbas Araghchi, Sergey Lavrov and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. During the phone calls with his Iranian and Russian counterparts and the US envoy, Abdelaaty stressed the need to resort to diplomatic and political solutions to help contain the tense situation and neutralize the risk of a comprehensive escalation in the Middle East.

According to Qatar News Agency, he emphasized the need to work towards an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations as the only way to reach a sustainable agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. He also stressed the absence of military solutions to the crises facing the region, noting the need to work to prevent the expansion of the conflict and the region from sliding into total chaos that would harm all parties.
