Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and King Felipe VI of Spain, currently visiting Egypt, stressed during their meeting the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and prisoners, the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, the de-escalation of the situation in the region, and efforts to preserve the peace that has existed in the region since the 1970s.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement that the meeting emphasized the absolute rejection of any efforts to displace the Palestinian people from their land, as this would result in the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and constitute aggression and a threat to the security of neighboring countries, in addition to its dangerous repercussions, represented by unprecedented waves of displacement and illegal migration towards Europe.
Both leaders stressed their absolute rejection of illegal Israeli practices in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and the threat of annexing Palestinian territories, as this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law. They also reviewed regional and international developments.
The Egyptian President expressed his appreciation for Spain's support for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, particularly through Spain's recognition of the State of Palestine and its vote in favor of the New York Declaration on the Two-State Solution at the United Nations General Assembly. This reflects Madrid's commitment to the two-state solution and enshrines the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting also witnessed an exchange of views on several regional and international crises, including the war in Ukraine. The importance of political and peaceful solutions that ensure the preservation of the sovereignty of states, their territorial integrity, and the capabilities of their peoples was emphasized.
The two sides also agreed to continue coordination and consultation on issues of common concern, both bilaterally and within multilateral regional and international forums. The Egyptian President and the King of Spain also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic, investment, tourism, cultural, and educational fields.
