Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has organized a specialized training course for 50 officers from the General Authority of Customs, aimed at enhancing their capabilities in the safe handling of radioactive materials and ensuring the protection of human health and the environment.
According to Qatar News Agency, the training program included detailed explanations of the types of radioactive materials and methods for preventing their harmful effects, as well as an overview of the legal frameworks governing the peaceful use of radiation.
Participants were also introduced to the mechanisms for detecting radiation in customs shipments using state-of-the-art field equipment, such as border gate monitors and personal detection devices. The course provided hands-on training opportunities, focusing on the application of safety procedures when dealing with customs shipments containing radioactive materials or radiation-emitting devices.
This training is part of a series of programs conducted by the Radiation Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with various national institutions, to achieve the highest standards of radiation safety in the State of Qatar.
