Estonia's Presidency has announced that Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, rendered her resignation, on Monday, to assume the position of foreign policy chief of the European Union, succeeding Josep Borrell. Kallas will continue her temporary duties, pending confirmation of the formation of the next government by early August, while her party is scheduled to elect its new leader on Sept.8. Having assumed the position of Prime Minister since 2021, and leading three consecutive governments, Kallas deemed the war in Europe and the increasing regional instability as two major challenges facing the European foreign policy. Josep Borrell assumed the position of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in 2019, after holding senior positions in the parliament and the European Union. The European Parliament has yet to vote on the appointment of Kallas as the EU's Foreign Policy Chief. Source: Qatar News Agency
