European Stocks Close Lower as Energy and Financial Sectors Weigh on Markets

London: European stock indices closed lower at the close of trading Friday, reversing gains made earlier in the trading session.

According to Qatar News Agency, the pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed down 0.2 percent, weighed down by declines in energy and financial stocks. The energy index fell 1.8 percent, European regional banking stocks fell 1.3 percent, the insurance index lost 0.6 percent, and the financial services index fell 0.3 percent.

The German DAX index closed down 0.7 percent, and the British FTSE 100 index fell 0.09 percent. The French CAC 40 index closed down 0.42 percent at the close.
