Eurozone Inflation Falls to 2 Percent in December

Brussels: The inflation rate in the Eurozone fell to 2 percent year-on-year in December, ending 2025 in line with the European Central Bank's target.

According to Qatar News Agency, a preliminary estimate published Wednesday by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the EU, indicated that the inflation rate reached 2 percent in December, compared to 2.1 percent in November.

The report further highlighted that core inflation, which excludes energy and food, also experienced a slight decline, falling to 2.3 percent in December from 2.4 percent in November.

This data is expected to reinforce expectations that the European Central Bank will maintain its main interest rates at its meeting scheduled for early February. The European Central Bank kept its main interest rate unchanged at 2 percent in December, a level that has remained unchanged since June.

Although the bank has confirmed that all options are on the table regarding its upcoming decisions, economists currently do not expect major measures regarding key interest rates in 2026.
