Al rayyan: The Algerian squad coach Madjid Bougherra said the team encountered formidable difficulties in the Sudan match, particularly after the player Adam Wanas was sent off with a red card, during the match held this evening between the two national teams at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium as part of the first round of Group D matches in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.
According to Qatar News Agency, Bougherra addressed the post-match press conference, stating that after this sending off, the squad had to alter the match strategy due to the standout performance of the Sudanese team, which had powerful wingers triggering the closure of defensive lines.
The situation became more complicated in the second half with mounting pressure from the Sudanese team, which required intensive efforts to reinforce the defensive line, he clarified.
Bougherra added that his team lacked certain key players who could have made a decisive difference in capitalizing on scoring opportunities, noting that the current squad included only a limited number of forwards/strikers, yet he expressed his satisfaction with the team roster he selected for the tournament.
All Algerian footballers gave their utmost coupled with immense efforts on the pitch, Bougherra noted, before concluding that his squad will diligently strive to achieve the intended goals with a sharp focus on the upcoming clash, utilizing the merits acquired from the Sudan match today.
