Fire Station Announces New Arts Intensive Study Program, Reveals Jury and Selected Artists

Doha: The Fire Station has launched its Arts Intensive Study Program (AISP), along with the distinguished jury and the 22 selected participants who will take part in this transformative opportunity for emerging visual artists. The program will be led by Fire Station Artistic Director Wael Shawky and the participants were chosen by an international committee chaired by HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani. According to Qatar News Agency, the program aims to foster an environment of experimentation, critical discourse, and skills building for promising artists working in any medium. Shawky emphasized that AISP is designed to support this mission by linking emerging artists from around the world with a network of artists, curators, thinkers, and cultural professionals, aligning with Qatar Museums' vision of being a global center for artistic innovation and cultural exchange. AISP is designed to promote critical thinking, hands-on learning, and professional development for a di verse cohort of 22 emerging Qatari and international artists. It builds on the legacy of the Fire Station Artist in Residence (AIR) program, offering a comprehensive curriculum guided by influential voices in the art world. The Fire Station provides facilities including individual and group studios, workshops, exhibition halls, and spaces for public programs, all aimed at nurturing both creative and intellectual growth. Participants will engage in an immersive environment to refine technical skills, deepen conceptual approaches, and expand artistic practices. AISP aims to shift the art dialogue beyond the Western hemisphere, offering a curriculum shaped by diverse perspectives. Each selected artist will be paired with a dedicated mentor from a roster of international curatorial talent, with the program including workshops, seminars, group critiques, and lectures by renowned figures in the art world. The residency will conclude in June 2026, culminating in an exhibition curated by Shawky, featuring works fro m all 22 artists. The list of selected artists includes Vy Tran Thao Trinh, Amanda Eve Assaley, W. Rajaie, Aiza Ahmed, Mahesh Mothe, and others. The jury comprises notable figures such as Sheikha Reem Al Thani, His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, Zeina Arida, and several internationally recognized artists and curators. The announcement of AISP underscores Qatar's commitment to developing its local art scene while fostering global connections. By integrating studio work with theoretical input, Fire Station aims to enrich traditional art education and nurture a new generation of critically engaged artists. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Qatar Museums, celebrated with the Evolution Nation campaign, highlighting Qatar's cultural journey and the thriving ecosystem of institutions it represents today.
