First Phase of International Arabic Calligraphy Competition Concludes in Doha

Doha: The first phase of the International Arabic Calligraphy Competition, titled "Akhlaq Award," concluded on Saturday. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the event aimed to promote ethical values through the art of classical Arabic calligraphy, integral to the enduring Islamic heritage. According to Qatar News Agency, Abdulrahman Al Dulaimi, Director of the Culture and Arts Department at the Ministry of Culture, praised the high artistic level exhibited by female participants, reflecting the success of the inaugural competition. The event included a cultural program that attracted several intellectuals and innovators, with significant public interaction noted by Al Dulaimi. Al Dulaimi also mentioned that the judging panel would begin evaluating the submitted works today, with the winners to be announced during a special ceremony on Tuesday. The award aimed to be a hub for community members practicing Arabic calligraphy, both regionally and globally, with noteworthy engagement and artistic achievement t hroughout the week. Additionally, a seminar on calligraphic ornaments and the formation of meaning was held, featuring calligrapher and artist Abdullah Yousuf Al Fakhro, a member of the Qatari Society of Fine Arts and founder of the Calligraphers' House, alongside Iraqi calligrapher Hameed Al Saady, a master of Arabic letters. The seminar concluded with a call for calligraphers to present their innovations within frameworks that preserve art rules and authenticity, to enrich artistic exploration and foster creative works in a well-learned style.
