FIVB Commends Qatari Beach Volleyball Team After Winning Gstaad Elite World Championship

Doha: The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) commended the outstanding performance of the Qatari beach volleyball team, following the victory of the duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who won the gold medal at the Gstaad Elite 16 World Championship, which concluded last Sunday in Switzerland.

According to Qatar News Agency, FIVB said on its website today that this achievement is part of the fruits of the volleyball sports empowerment program, which it provides to support national teams around the world by providing high-level technical staff and the necessary equipment to enhance competitive performance. The Qatari team benefited from this program through the provision of a specialized international technical team to supervise the preparation and qualification of the Qatari duo, in addition to continuous logistical support.

The Qatari duo achieved five wins and one loss in the tournament, winning their second gold medal this season on the World Tour.

With this victory, the Qatari national team's tally on the World Beach Volleyball Tour rises to four gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals, an achievement that reflects the team's development and its advanced position on the international stage.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) confirmed in its report that this victory exemplifies the success of Qatar's strategy to develop beach volleyball. This strategy involves investing in international programs, expanding participation in major tournaments, and maximizing the benefit of the technical and training support initiatives provided by the International Federation. This has strengthened the Qatari national team's presence among the world's elite teams.

In the latest ranking issued by the International Federation, the Qatari men's national team moved up to fifth place globally, up from seventh place, with 5,720 points, having participated in 10 tournaments this season. The most notable of these was its recent victory in the Gstaad Elite 16 tournament, which added 1,200 points to its international tally.
