Doha: Floods that swept through Afghanistan's Nuristan Province have resulted in the deaths of 20 individuals and injured 80 others, as reported by the country's National Disaster Management Authority.

According to Qatar News Agency, the casualty figures provided by the authority are preliminary and may increase as search and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected regions. Additionally, more than 100 individuals remain unaccounted for as efforts continue to locate them.

Projections from the Meteorological Directorate of Afghanistan's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation indicate the possibility of further heavy rainfall, along with strong winds and thunderstorms, which could potentially lead to additional flash floods in several provinces.

The National Disaster Management Authority has advised residents to avoid riverbanks and areas prone to flooding, adhere to instructions from provincial disaster preparedness committees, and implement necessary precautionary measures to ensure their safety.
