Manama, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for Human Rights, praised the royal decree issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, pardoning inmates convicted in cases related to riots and criminal offenses. The minister said that the royal pardon of 1,584 inmates is part of a pioneering initiative aiming to balance justice, rule of law, and humanitarian aspects, providing them with opportunities to reintegrate into society with a fresh start. He praised HM the King's humanitarian approach and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister's support for human rights and civil, political, economic, and social freedoms within a modern legislative and judicial framework. The minister praised Bahrain's advanced legislative and regulatory measures, including the Open Prisons Programme, which has received international accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA), and its legislative flexibility in replacing custodial sentences with alternative or multiple penalties. Dr. Al Zayani praised the royal pardon decree as a humanitarian initiative, reaffirming the kingdom's commitment to safety, stability, justice, national unity, peaceful coexistence, and a rejection of violence, extremism, and hatred.
