Former DRC President Sentenced to Death Over War Crimes

Doha: The former Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila has been sentenced to death in absentia for treason and war crimes. The Supreme Military Court convicted Kabila of treason, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, including murder, sexual assault, torture, and insurrection.

According to Qatar News Agency, Kabila assumed the presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2001 following the assassination of his father, Laurent-D©sir© Kabila, and ruled the country for about 18 years until 2019, when he handed over power to his successor, Felix Tshisekedi. During his rule, the Congo faced repeated armed conflicts in its eastern region.
