Paris: France, the United States, Britain, and Germany have expressed their approval of the recent extension of the ceasefire in Syria. The agreement, which prolongs the ceasefire for an additional 15 days between the Syrian government and the SDF forces, has been welcomed by these nations. They urge all involved parties to fully adhere to the agreement's terms and avoid any escalation on the ground.
According to Qatar News Agency, the joint statement following a meeting attended by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, German Deputy Foreign Minister Serap Guler, and US Special Envoy Tom Barrack highlighted the importance of respecting the ceasefire. The statement stressed the necessity for all parties to exercise restraint, which would contribute to civilian protection and maintain stability in conflict-affected areas.
The countries further emphasized the urgency of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement. They believe such a development is crucial for reducing tensions and creating conditions conducive to launching a comprehensive political process, in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions.
The international endorsement of the ceasefire extension arrives amid ongoing tensions in northern and eastern Syria. There are concerns about the potential collapse of current agreements, which could worsen humanitarian conditions and threaten regional stabilization efforts.
