Playing in Suita, Gamba Osaka edged a closely contested second leg to progress 3-2 on aggregate after last week's 1-1 draw in Pohang. The Japanese team capitalized on their home advantage, overcoming the stalemate in a finely balanced tie to ensure their advancement into the last eight of Asia's secondary club competition. Pohang, who had managed to hold Gamba to a draw in the first leg, could not find the decisive response away from home.

According to Qatar News Agency, in Sydney, Thailand's Bangkok United also advanced to the quarter-finals after a 2-2 draw against Australia's Macarthur FC in the second leg of their last-16 encounter. Having claimed a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Pathum Thani, Bangkok United progressed 4-2 on aggregate. Despite Macarthur's attempts to overturn the deficit on home ground, the Thai side did enough to see out the tie and confirm their spot in the next round.

Both Gamba Osaka and Bangkok United now await the quarter-final draw as they continue their pursuit of continental silverware.
