DOHA: The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) concluded its Bureau meeting, which was presided over by HE GANHRI Chairperson, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah. According to Qatar News Agency, the Bureau, comprised of 16 members representing the four regional networks, serves as GANHRI's executive committee. It is tasked with implementing the General Assembly's resolutions, developing organizational policies, and overseeing the organization's programs and finances. Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah emphasized the importance of the meeting as a pivotal moment to assess progress, address challenges, and devise strategies to strengthen National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) globally. The meeting gathered key figures, including the Chairperson, Secretary, and Regional Chairpersons, as well as representatives from the GANHRI Head Office, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Participants engaged in discussions to support and protect NHRIs, enhance compliance with the UN Paris Principles, and amplify their influence on global platforms. These discussions aimed to delineate a clear path for supporting NHRIs' work and fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders. Key highlights of the meeting included updates from regional networks and working groups, progress reports on activities, governance, and finance, as well as discussions on maximizing collaboration. The Bureau also adopted the 2025 draft work plan and provisional budget. Moreover, updates from GANHRI's Sub Committee on Accreditation (SCA) were presented, and strategic priorities for the upcoming year and themes for the GANHRI Annual Meeting in March 2025 were discussed. In concluding the meeting, Al Attiyah expressed gratitude to the Bureau members and observers for their contributions. She highlighted the challenging global context, emphasizing the increased impo rtance of collaboration to address common priorities and needs.
