Kuwait City: The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) concluded its 45th session in Kuwait, highlighting a range of regional and international issues. The council notably praised the 'Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award,' recognizing Qatar's commitment to promoting global anti-corruption efforts and fostering transparency and good governance worldwide. According to Qatar News Agency, the GCC's final statement underscored the award's status as an international platform since its inception in 2016, celebrating significant contributions to combating corruption. In addition, the council expressed appreciation for the efforts of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during Qatar's presidency of the 44th session, congratulating the State of Kuwait's assumption of the 45th session's presidency. The summit also acknowledged Qatar's successful hosting of the Web Summit 2024 and its commitment to supporting startups with a USD 1 billion fund as part of its National Vision 2030. The council extended condolences to Kuwait for the passing of its former Amir, HH Shaikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and congratulated HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on his new leadership role. The GCC lauded the outcomes of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit in Doha, emphasizing "Sport Diplomacy" as a vehicle for peace and tolerance. Additionally, the council praised Saudi Arabia's role in coordinating cybersecurity strategies among member states and commended joint military efforts, including the appointment of Major General Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Salim Al Balawi as the GCC's Unified Military Command. The council reiterated its commitment to the Palestinian cause, condemning Israeli actions in Gaza and urging international intervention. It also addressed regional security concerns, reaffirming its stance on Iran's nuclear program and the importance of maritime security. The Supreme Council emphasized continued collaboration with international partners to address terror ism and extremism, stressing the significance of diplomatic efforts and humanitarian aid in conflict zones like Yemen, Sudan, and Syria. The council commended mediation efforts in the Russia-Ukraine crisis and recognized the importance of strategic partnerships with global entities. In conclusion, the council expressed its readiness for the UAE's presidency of its forty-sixth session, anticipating further progress and cooperation among GCC member states.
