Budapest, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. The two sides affirmed the importance of strengthening Gulf-Hungarian and Gulf-European relations, in light of Hungary's presidency of the European Union (EU) during the second half of 2024. The meeting discussed GCC-Hungary relations, the importance of efforts to cooperate and develop diplomatic and economic relations to achieve common interests. The meeting also followed up on the latest regional and international developments, particularly the crisis in Gaza, where the two sides emphasised achieving comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions. The Secretary General also mentioned that the Hungarian Minister affirmed during the meeting that Hungary, during its presidency of the EU next July, will work to support many files related to Gulf-European relations, including intensifying political dialogue between the two sides, trade exchange, and exempting GCC citizens from the Schengen visa, where Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's welcome of this position. The Secretary General extended an invitation to Péter Szijjártó to visit the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh, in order to discuss and move forward on these three subjects and other related matters of common interest.
