Munich: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al Budaiwi affirmed that the Council, through its unity and strategic approach, serves not only as a defender of its members' interests but also as a key partner in regional and global stability, and a cornerstone for regional and international cooperation.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Budaiwi made the remarks during a panel discussion on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference. He emphasized that the Council continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional security and stability through an approach based on dialogue, diplomacy, and international partnerships, serving as a strong example of how challenges can be transformed into opportunities for shared progress and prosperity.
He pointed out that the leaders of the GCC firmly believe in a fundamental principle: the security and stability of GCC states form the foundation for the security and stability of the entire region. Al Budaiwi highlighted that the Middle East faces intertwined security, political, and economic challenges that require a collective vision based on respect for state sovereignty, adherence to international law, and the adoption of peaceful solutions to conflicts.
He noted that the GCC pursues a comprehensive crisis management strategy combining political mediation, economic cooperation, and international partnerships, having established relations with more than 23 countries and 8 international organizations and groups. He reaffirmed that the Palestinian issue remains at the core of the GCC's priorities, stressing the necessity of achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al Budaiwi also emphasized the importance of addressing challenges related to Iran's nuclear file and the need for GCC participation in any relevant negotiations to ensure regional security and stability, while supporting efforts to make the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction. The Secretary-General noted that GCC states have been at the forefront of humanitarian work, providing approximately $14 billion in humanitarian aid between 2020 and 2025, reflecting their commitment to supporting stability and development at the international level.
