GCC Welcomes UN Human Rights Council’s Adoption of Qatar-Led Resolution on Protecting Women, Children in Conflict

Geneva: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, welcomed the unanimous adoption of a resolution by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, submitted by the State of Qatar on behalf of the core group comprising Qatar and Costa Rica. The resolution is titled: "Promotion and Protection of the Human Rights of Women and Children in Conflict and Post Conflict Situations: Ensuring Justice, Remedies and Reparation for Victims."

According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi praised Qatar's diplomatic efforts, led by its Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva, which played a pivotal role in garnering broad international support for the resolution.

He emphasized that the unanimous adoption marks a significant step toward strengthening international mechanisms for accountability and deterring violations against women and children in conflict zones.

He urged the international community to build on this achievement by effectively implementing the resolution's provisions and ensuring adequate support for the protection and redress of victims.

Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's commitment to supporting all international initiatives aimed at promoting human rights, reinforcing peace and security, and upholding human dignity worldwide.
