GCC Women’s Affairs Committee hold first meeting

The Women's Affairs Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held its first meeting virtually, under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).

This meeting came after the positive response of the GCC General Secretariat to the Kingdom's proposal to form the committee, which was announced during the first meeting of the Standing Committee for Women's Affairs in the GCC states, held recently in Oman.

During the meeting, Shaikha Deena bint Rashid Al Khalifa, Assistant Secretary-General of the SCW, reviewed the efforts of Bahrain in monitoring the empowerment and progress of Bahraini women and their contribution to the national economy, in addition to its efforts to promote equal opportunities and gender balance.

The meeting discussed proposed committee structure and potential recommendations to be adopted.

The team also reviewed the timeline for the preparation of GCC strategy on women's affairs.
