Berlin: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called for increased pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Speaking at the "Caf© Kyiv" Ukraine Forum in Berlin, Merz said, "This war will only end when Russia no longer sees any point in continuing it. When Russia can no longer expect to gain any territory. That is why we must maintain pressure on Russia. We must even increase it."
According to Qatar News Agency, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the German Chancellor reiterated his condemnation of Russia's methods of warfare, accusing Moscow of indifference to human rights and human life.
The Chancellor stated that he believes Russia's military objectives under President Vladimir Putin still extend beyond Ukraine. Merz emphasized that the mistake of observing the situation without taking action must not be repeated, pledging continued German support for Ukraine.
The Chancellor added that since the outbreak of the war, bilateral civilian support has been provided to Ukraine worth approximately 40 billion euros, while the amount of military support already provided and pledged has reached more than 50 billion euros.
