German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed regional developments in a phone call on Thursday. The call comes amid concerns of escalating tensions in the region, particularly after the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. In a statement, the German Foreign Ministry warned that further regional escalation would not be in anyone's interest and called on all actors in the region to act responsibly and exercise restraint.
