Doha: Germany's caretaker Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has criticized the tariffs announced by the United States on cars. Baerbock said in a statement Thursday that the announced tariffs will negatively and significantly impact the global economy, stressing that Europeans will take measures to protect their industries and jobs.
According to Qatar News Agency, Baerbock emphasized that Europeans do not want a trade war, especially between friends, and are always ready to negotiate, but only on the basis of rules and mutual respect. US President Donald Trump announced last Wednesday the imposition of a 25 percent tariff on imported cars, and the European Union (EU) and Canada threatened to impose tariffs more extensive than previously planned if they agreed to take measures that would harm the US economy.
