Doha: The third GFB24 International Basketball Camp, organized by FAME Sports Academy in collaboration with the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), got underway on Saturday. The event is held under the supervision of the internationally acclaimed coach Gigi Brown, officially certified by the US National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The camp's atmosphere is highly energized, featuring remarkable engagement from participants of both genders, coinciding with the arrival of Coach Gigi Brown to lead the training program.
According to Qatar News Agency, Coach Gigi Brown instructed the youth on how to blend individual skills with enhanced physical readiness, while also fortifying mental and tactical capacities, in line with the requirements of modern basketball. The Sunday activities are set to feature a match between the Qatar Women's National Basketball Team and the Qatar University Team.
The camp is held at the Sherborne School Sports Hall- Qatar Mall Branch, serving as an outstanding training hub that combines high professionalism with intensive practical application, earning widespread attention within sporting circles. From the commencement of training sessions, participants have demonstrated exceptional commitment and discipline under the interactive methodology employed by Gigi Brown.
The program runs daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., open to various age groups and skill levels. The camp embodies a clear vision aimed at preparing a new generation of athletes capable of competing in professional environments, leveraging a training experience that spans the US, Europe, and Asia. Coach Gigi Brown focuses on imparting practical expertise in professional pathways, collegiate basketball prospects, and holistic athletic development.
The current iteration of the camp includes competitions, alongside a program to strengthen competitive spirit and apply acquired skills on the ground, featuring over 100 participants, aged 8 to 19. The camp will also host the University of Sharjah Women's Basketball Team (UAE) for the second consecutive year, reflecting the expansion of Gulf sports collaboration. Friendly matches are set to be held with several local teams, including the QU Team, providing a genuine competitive environment that contributes to raising the athletes' technical level.
General Manager of FAME Sports Academy, Ahmed Hamouda, affirmed that the launch of this event underscores the growing confidence in the camp, highlighting the Academy's persistent efforts to offer training programs with global standards, aligned with the evolution of the sport and serving the future of basketball in Qatar and the region. Marketing Advisor of the Academy, Dalia Faraj, emphasized that the high participation and positive interaction from participants is testament to the success of the camp's vision. He noted that such initiatives represent a vital channel for propagating the basketball culture, particularly as Qatar prepares to host the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the first-of-its-kind in the Middle East and North Africa.
