HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, the Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions and Chairperson of Qatar's National Human Rights Committee, affirmed the Alliance's support for national institutions in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Libya and Sudan, noting the Alliance's keenness to find sources of support for the stability of institutions and the continuation of their activities with the greatest possible degree of independence. This came during Her Excellency's participation in the conference of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, accompanying its 23rd General Assembly in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The Global Alliance extended support to its member institutions in conflict, dispute and war zones, Her Excellency added, praising the efforts of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, while noting that the Arab Network has become a place for important cooperation and a place for joint and influential Arab meetings. Al Attiyah further sa id that the evaluation of the networks role is conducted by its member national institutions in the Arab region, especially that received real support from the network in difficult circumstances through which their countries have undergone and are still undergoing, pointing out that the Arab network has carried out many activities that contributed to strengthening and protecting human rights in the Arab region. HE Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdul-Moneim Odat said that his country gives a deep and effective dimension to the issue of human rights during its democratic process. He added that international legitimacy and human rights organizations today face a real test to their value, usefulness, impact and influence in changing the course of events by putting an end to the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon which flagrantly violate all laws and agreements. HE Secretary-General of the Arab Network Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali stressed the contin uation of the Network's efforts to support the Palestinian cause and its endeavors to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip through support and advocacy for the legal efforts in which the Network participated to hold Israeli war criminals accountable to ensure that they do not escape punishment. Al Jamali referred to the efforts of the Network's General Secretariat staff in implementing the networks programs and their good response and interaction with member institutions and partner organizations, noting that these efforts enabled the implementation of all items of the Arab Networks operational plan for the year 2023, and the relevant updates to meet the needs and challenges that emerged as a result of the war launched by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and on Lebanon that violated all international conventions and norms, committed the most heinous crimes, and disregarded the international community. HE Head of the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt Ambassador Moushira Kh attab stressed that the Arab Network seeks to expose the crimes of the Israeli occupation against humanity in the Gaza Strip and its efforts to displace people from their land, appreciating the efforts in this regard at a time when the ugliest crimes and flagrant violations of human rights and double standards are increasing amidst a terrible silence. She added that peace will only be achieved by establishing an independent Palestinian state, and that the war on Gaza has proven the inability of the international system to achieve justice and respect human rights. Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Mohammed Al-Nsour appreciated the efforts of the Network in protecting human rights in the Arab region, enhancing awareness of these rights and providing a cross-border platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices. He said that national institutions play a crucial role in effectively empowering international human rights standards at the l evel of the Arab world, and represent the cornerstone in promoting and protecting these rights at the international level. Governance, and Peacebuilding Team Leader, UNDP Regional Hub for Arab States, Giordano Segneri stressed the importance of the international community's role in supporting national human rights institutions in Arab countries and the pivotal role played by these institutions in protecting the rights of individuals, promoting the rule of law, and continuing to implement training programs, technical support and advice to support members at the national and regional levels.
