GSMA Official to QNA: MWC to Benefit From Qatar’s Digital Transformation

Doha: Qatar's hosting of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) for the next five years, marking the first time it will be held in the Middle East and North Africa, will benefit from the country's vision which emphasizes extensive digital transformation, stated Lara Dewar, Chief Marketing Officer of the Global Mobile Networks Association (GSMA).

According to Qatar News Agency, Dewar highlighted during her participation in the Qatar Economic Forum 2025 that this year's forum serves as an opportunity to spotlight the communications sector, a critical component of the economy that permeates every industry. She emphasized the importance of leveraging the Economic Forum to advance the communications and mobile phone sector.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani announced in his opening speech at the QEF 2025 that Qatar will host the Mobile World Congress for five consecutive years, with the inaugural event scheduled for Doha next November. He underlined that this hosting marks a significant step in firmly positioning Qatar on the global digital economy map.

Dewar elaborated that the Mobile World Congress is not only an exhibition but also a thought leadership program that showcases the latest technologies and innovations. It unites global leaders across various sectors to exchange visions and innovative ideas, and includes a vibrant community of startups.

Expressing her anticipation for the conference in Doha, Dewar noted the involvement of key partners, particularly the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and emphasized the importance of hosting the event in Doha over five years to capitalize on accumulated expertise, forge partnerships, and deepen regional understanding as a foundation for future growth.
