New York, The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, stressed his strong commitment to continue working to meet humanitarian needs and implement early recovery projects in Syria, attaching great importance to cooperation between the UN and Syria, especially in light of the challenges that the world is witnessing today. During a Ceremony of Presentation of the Letters of Credence, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak presented his credentials to the Secretary-General as Syria's permanent representative to the UN, which took place at the headquarters of the international organization in New York. Guterres voiced his aspiration for the return of security and stability to Syria and the well-being of its people, noting the historical and cultural heritage that Syria enjoys, and recalling that what he saw during his previous work as UNHCR High Commissioner was the embrace of refugees by Syria and its people. Al-Dahhak stressed that Syria, which is a founding member of the UN, is keen on strengthening and expanding horizons of the existing constructive cooperation relations with the international organization in a way that consolidate the efforts of the Syrian state in the humanitarian and development fields, enhances early recovery projects and provides basic services to the Syrian people.
