Health Minister Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hasan attended the meeting of Eastern Mediterranean member states in the, on the sidelines of the 76th World Health Assembly session, being held in Geneva, Switzerland on May 21-30.
World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Directior for the East Mediterranean Dr Ahmed Salim Saif Al Mandhari addressed the opening session, welcoming heads of delegation.
Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of Programs at the Regional Office for Global Health, raised key issues during the meeting health issues related to the region, including the eradication of polio, comprehensive health coverage, as well efforts to combat chronic non-communicable diseases.
She highlighted efforts made by Eastern Mediterranean countries to tackle health emergencies and enhance preparedness, in addition to the global strategy for infection and control.
Dr. Hasan stressed the importance reinforcing interstate cooperation to combat these diseases, backing the WHO-led efforts to step up prevention and therapies.
