2 Seas Motorsport, owned by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has secured its first major championship at the penultimate round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.
Holding the lead in both the championship’s standings arriving at Brands Hatch over the weekend, a double top-4 finish for the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport team was enough to secure the GT3 Teams’ title with a commanding lead of more than 100 points. The battle for the second title will be confirmed at the series finale, with driver pairing James Cottingham and Jonny Adam going to the #DoningtonDecider holding an advantage in the standings.
On the occasion, HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla said: " An incredible drive by all four of the boys today, who each delivered a fantastic drive, and I am so proud of the whole 2 Seas Motorsport team. The results this season have been a real team effort, and to recover from the back of the field on lap 1 and a 20-second success penalty to finish P3 and P4 reinforces what a great team effort it was, and it was a great way to secure our first championship title."
During the action-packed two-hour race, held at Kent circuit, the team's pair, James Cottingham and Jonny Adam, clinched the third place, while Ian Loggie and Jules Gounon finished fourth.
The result secured a strong haul of points to secure the GT3 Teams’ title, and a first championship for 2 Seas Motorsport. Jonny and James also retained the lead in the GT3 Drivers’ standings, now 13 points clear at the top of the table heading to the season finale next month.
The season finale takes place over the weekend, at Donington Park Circuit on 21-22 October. Jonny and James lead the standings, while Ian is still in contention to secure P2 in the championship.
