HH Shaikh Nasser chairs SCYS meeting

Manama, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, chaired the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) meeting at Al Wadi Palace. The meeting was attended by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of SCYS, Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and other members of the Council. His Highness Shaikh Nasser lauded the sports sector's achievements in 2023, during which Bahrain has earned 387 medals in regional and international sports tournaments. HH Shaikh Nasser wished GSA success in the programmes, initiatives, and projects that it is conducting to maintain the sustainability of achievements. During the meeting, the SCYS approved the strategic plan for the sports sector, covering the years 2024 to 2026. The plan focuses on creating champions through education, long term skills development, management of sports talent, and making sports a li festyle. These policies aim to create a vibrant, competitive, and highly efficient sports climate that contributes to sporting excellence and achieving championships. The strategy also covers infrastructure development through institutional channels, introducing investment-friendly factors into the sports industry by establishing an investment-friendly structure and defining key performance indicators to attain the set objectives. His Highness directed GSA to create and oversee the execution of an implementation plan. The GSA outlined challenges and opportunities in the coming period, in line with the set budget. His Highness instructed GSA to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and National Economy to structure the ten-year plan in a manner that accommodates the requirements of the sports sector and the strategic plan discussed at the GSA meeting. The General Secretariat of SCYS gave a presentation about the cycling and running track project in the Southern Governorate. The project, in which constr uction started in early 2022, aims to encourage more people to engage in sports and offer a safe 48-kilometer path for cyclists. It includes features such as first aid and defibrillators, SOS relief devices, signs and guide poles, speed reduction measures, and solar-powered lighting.
