HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award Boosts Global Anti-Corruption Initiatives.

San Jose: The "HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award" embodies Qatar's vision of a corruption-free world and bolsters international anti-corruption efforts. Since its inception in 2016, the award has recognized outstanding contributions by organizations and individuals in promoting transparency and good governance globally. The 8th edition will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. According to Qatar News Agency, the award features five categories: Lifetime Achievement, Academic Research, Youth Creativity, Innovation or Investigative Journalism, and Protecting Sports from Corruption. It underscores the importance of collaboration among governments, international organizations, and NGOs to develop effective anti-corruption strategies. HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, highlighted the award's international significance in promoting cooperation and combating corruption's detrimental effects on political, economic, and social spheres. He emphasized the need for a program to document award-winning achievements for global reference. Over its previous sessions, the award has positively impacted international and local initiatives, fostering awareness and encouraging transparent policies. Dr. Tariq Hamoud of Lusail University noted Qatar's commitment to sustainable development goals and combating corruption as essential for justice and transparency in governance. Dr. Ahmed Qassim Hussein of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies emphasized the award's role in promoting integrity and transparency, inspiring others to combat corruption through innovative approaches and societal oversight. Dr. Basil Salloukh of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies highlighted its significance in addressing corruption as a barrier to development in the Global South and reinforcing Qatar's contributions to global anti-corruption efforts.
