Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, praised the qualitative and unprecedented initiatives launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to promote inter-religious dialogue. He pointed out HM the King’s launch of the Declaration of Bahrain for religious tolerance, which is considered as an international document aimed at fostering religious freedom. He also cited the inauguration of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence.
The Arab Parliament Speaker commended the enlightened vision of HM the King to boost inter-cultural tolerance and coexistence. He also lauded the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to boost inter-faith dialogue and enhance the role of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence in this regard.
Al-Asoumi was speaking during the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, which was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, under the theme "Working Together for Our Common Future". The conference was attended by prominent parliamentary personalities from all over the world.
The Arab parliament Speaker affirmed the great importance accorded by the Arab Parliament to inter-religious dialogue, being an essential factor to achieve rapprochement and enhance relations between peoples. He reiterated the call for the initiative unveiled during his participation in the G20 Forum for Interfaith Dialogue, which was hosted by the Italian city of Bologna, in September 2021.
The initiative calls for the establishment of a global parliamentary platform for interfaith dialogue, which includes programmes and activities to qualify and build the capacities of parliamentarians in this field.
Al-Asoumi noted that dialogue and tolerance does in no way mean accepting defamation of religions and their sacred symbols under the pretext of freedom of expression.
