Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality, specialized care for thyroid cancer patients through a dedicated multidisciplinary thyroid care program. An HMC statement said the organization's comprehensive thyroid cancer services are designed to guide patients through every step of their journey - from diagnosis to long-term recovery - under the care of a collaborative team of experts.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Mahmoud Zirie, Senior Consultant, Endocrinology and Chairman of the Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team at HMC, stated that patient care is supported by a multidisciplinary team that tailors each stage of treatment to specific needs. Thyroid cancer is among the most common cancers in Qatar, particularly affecting women, who are three times more likely to develop this condition than men. With advances in diagnostic technologies, detection rates have increased. However, despite the increase in incidence, the morbidity and mortality rates have remained stable.
Dr. Zaina Rohani, Senior Consultant, Endocrinology and Member of the Thyroid MDT at HMC, outlined the key elements of the thyroid cancer care pathway. These include prompt detection through comprehensive ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration services, surgical management by an expert team of surgeons, personalized treatment options, long-term follow-up through dedicated clinics, and access to multilingual care teams.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tania Jaber, Consultant, Endocrinology and Member of the Thyroid MDT at HMC, emphasized the integrated approach of the multidisciplinary thyroid team. Specialists from various fields such as endocrinology, surgery, oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology, and nursing work together to provide a seamless, evidence-based care experience. This model is further strengthened through coordinated appointment scheduling and a focus on patient empowerment.
