IAEA: Level of Radioactivity Outside Natanz Site Has Remained Unchanged

Vienna: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed today that radioactivity levels outside the Natanz nuclear facility in Isfahan Province, central Iran, remain within normal limits, indicating that no radiation leakage that could affect the population or the environment has been recorded following recent developments.

According to Qatar News Agency, during a closed emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna, Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi warned that the continued Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, particularly the Natanz enrichment facility, could lead to radioactive and chemical contamination, although there is currently no immediate threat.

Grossi emphasized that this risk can be effectively controlled by taking appropriate preventative measures, such as the use of respiratory protection while inside the facility. The IAEA Director General explained that radiation poses a significant risk if uranium is inhaled or ingested.

The IAEA stated that the Israeli military attack on Iran increases the risk of nuclear radiation leakage and delays efforts to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons. This meeting comes in light of the rapid developments in the region after the Israeli entity launched a series of attacks last Friday morning targeting military, nuclear, and civilian sites in Iran.
