Inflation in France Rises 0.9 Percent in June Year-on-Year

Paris: Data released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) showed that the inflation rate in France rose by 0.9 percent year-on-year in June.

According to Qatar News Agency, the institute explained in a statement Friday that the increase in inflation was mainly due to an acceleration in service prices, which increased by 2.4 percent in June, compared to 2.1 percent in May. This was attributed to higher costs for accommodation, transportation, and healthcare.

Conversely, energy prices fell by 6.7 percent compared to the same month last year, a less severe decline than the 8 percent decline in May. The statement indicated that core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, rose slightly to 1.2 percent, compared to 1.1 percent the previous month.

Food prices also saw a slight increase in the inflation rate, reaching 1.4 percent, compared to 1.3 percent in May. The domestic consumer price index in France also rose by 1 percent year-on-year.
