Manama, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, received a delegation from the US Middle East Institute (MEI), led by General Joseph L. Votel, the former Commander of the US Central Command. The Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, the Interior Ministry Undersecretary, Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and the Director-General of Media and Security Culture attended the meeting. The Interior Minister welcomed the US officials, highlighting the significance of such meetings in reinforcing interaction and exchanging views. He hailed the strategic Bahrain-US relations to serve the interests of the citizens of both countries. He appreciated the role of research organisations in conducting studies that contribute to addressing challenges and rapid developments. He commended the work of MEI in promoting partnerships through research, studies and active participation in reinforcing international peace. The meeting reviewed police performance and joint work d evelopment challenges. It also discussed holding an international conference that tackled strategic topics, current developments, and their regional impacts. The delegation was briefed on the Interior Ministry's community security programme, including the Maan (together) programme against violence and addiction, the open prisons programme, and the role of the community police as the basis of community partnership.
