Doha: The Investment and Trade Court organized a specialized seminar on insurance disputes in alignment with its pivotal role in adjudicating investment and commercial litigation. The move is part of the court's unwavering commitment to promoting legal culture and facilitating the exchange of expertise among judges and legal professionals.
According to Qatar News Agency, since the start of its operation and until the end of September 2025, the total caseload handled by the court has reached 31,795 initial filings, 7,949 appeals, and 1,223 requests for review, with the court rendering final judgments in 29,161 initial cases, 6,722 appellate cases, and 1,132 review cases.
The event addressed the critical importance of insurance and its associated legal disputes, as well as the general concepts of insurance, including its definition, purpose, and the distinction between mandatory and voluntary insurance, while reviewing the most prominent cases and contentious issues arising before the judiciary.
The seminar also included an extensive discussion of relevant rulings from the Court of Cassation, analyzing an array of judicial appeals issued between 2011 and 2025, which addressed topics such as standards of permission and consent in vehicle operation, gross negligence, and subrogation claims, thereby reinforcing the unification of judicial approaches in insurance matters.
HE President of the Investment and Trade Court, Judge Khalid bin Ali Al Obaidly, lauded the efforts being marshalled in preparing the working papers and legal discussions, affirming the importance of these meetings in lending impetus to the pathway toward judicial advancement and enhancing professional competence in adjudicating insurance disputes.
Finally, the participants recommended reinforcing coordination between the judicial and insurance authorities to unify notions and procedures, in addition to standardizing judicial principles in insurance cases to ensure consistency of rulings, while promoting specialized legal studies in this field. They also concurred on convening further interactive seminars and workshops to cope with legal and technical developments, with a particular emphasis on the significance of promoting legal awareness among insurers and policyholders to mitigate future disputes and potential litigation.
