Iraq Confirms Full Security on Syrian Border, Reports No Breaches

Baghdad: Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Sabah Al Numan, emphasized that the Iraqi-Syrian border is entirely secured, without any reported security breaches over the past period. The security situation across the Iraqi border is largely secured with all neighboring countries, not only Syria, with an adequate number of border guard forces of the Ministry of Interior deployed there, discharging their duties to prevent smuggling and infiltration, Al Numan highlighted.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Numan added that the Iraqi-Syrian border is equipped with cutting-edge technologies and electronic sensor devices, along with drones and thermal cameras, thereby bolstering their surveillance capabilities. He stated that the troops deployed on the border have been augmented with additional units from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, alongside supportive forces.

This measure is not a reaction to the latest changes that occurred in Syria, but rather it is based on the lessons learned from confronting the ISIS group in 2014, Al Numan said. He added that the construction of the concrete wall with Syria has reached advanced stages, particularly in areas of strategic significance, where modern surveillance towers have been installed, in addition to the placement of barbed wire to ensure full control over the border and prevent any infiltration attempts.
