Iraq to Deploy Generating Ships to Address Power Outages in Summer

Baghdad: The Iraqi government announced today it had deployed generating ships to add a capacity of 650 megawatts to address the shortage in electricity production during the summer peak period.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Iraqi Cabinet also approved in its meeting today, chaired by Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, to install a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) to import gas, which will supply the Besmaya gas power plant with a capacity of 750 million standard cubic feet per day.

It is noted that the electricity crisis in Iraq is primarily due to the decreased supply of imported gas, which has led to the shutdown of several power generation units and a loss of approximately 4000 megawatts of power, coinciding with rising temperatures and increased demand for electricity.
