Iraqi Authorities Halt Production at South Rumaila Oil Field Due to High Inventory Levels

Basra: The Iraqi Ministry of Oil and the Basra Oil Company have taken a decisive step to halt production and pumping at the South Rumaila oil field. The decision comes in response to significant international political developments and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which have affected oil transportation and storage.

According to Qatar News Agency, the company's operations department issued a statement detailing the impact of serious international political events. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to disrupted international shipping, causing oil tankers to avoid entering the Gulf basin. Additionally, there has been a noticeable absence of tankers at southern ports, resulting in a halt in loading at certain storage facilities.

The statement highlighted that these disruptions have caused oil inventories at storage facilities to reach critical levels, compelling the authorities to reduce production and pumping at the South Rumaila field by 100%. The decision took effect on Tuesday evening, underscoring the urgency and gravity of the situation.
