Iraqi PM Highlights Significant Iraq-Turkiye Trade Growth

Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani met in Baghdad with a group of Turkish businessmen, heads, and representatives of 17 firms operating actively in various fields and sectors.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sudani highlighted that the trade volume between Iraq and Turkiye exceeded USD 20 billion. He emphasized that Iraq is committed to advancing the development road, which could potentially offer opportunities that foster partnerships not only with Turkiye but also with other nations in the region.

Additionally, Al Sudani discussed with the Turkish delegation avenues for promoting understanding and cooperation in the water sector. This discussion is part of the agreement for cooperation in the water dossier that is set to enter into force in September 2024, following its signing with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Iraqi government, as highlighted by Al Sudani, is committed to maintaining constant communication with Turkish firms due to the special relationship between the two nations, which has seen significant growth over the past two years. He noted that the economy, investment, and business are crucial pillars of the partnership, essential for forging close trade and economic bonds between Iraq and Turkiye.

Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Anil Bora Inan, expressed that the relationship between Turkiye and Iraq extends beyond politics, encompassing economic and investment cooperation aimed at accomplishing projects within Iraq.
