Baghdad: The Iraqi Ministry of Oil revealed Tuesday that the country exported more than 100 million barrels of crude oil last month, generating revenues exceeding $6 billion. The ministry's announcement highlights Iraq's significant role in the global oil market and its continued reliance on oil exports as a major source of national revenue.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry stated that total oil exports and revenues for the month, based on data from the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), amounted to 101,630,925 barrels, with revenues estimated at $6,361,636,000. These figures underscore the critical importance of the oil sector to Iraq's economy.
The ministry detailed that the majority of exports originated from oil fields in the central and southern parts of Iraq, totaling 100,365,335 barrels. In contrast, the Qayyarah field in Nineveh Governorate contributed 955,684 barrels to the export total. Additionally, Iraq exported 309,906 barrels to neighboring Jordan in May, indicating the strategic partnerships Iraq maintains in the region.
In comparison, Iraq's oil exports in April were slightly lower, estimated at 100,953,282 barrels, but generated higher revenues of $6,738,309,000. This fluctuation in revenue, despite similar export volumes, may reflect changes in global oil prices or variations in the market demand.
